Introduction

It can be rather disconcerting to be told, in a report such as this, that ‘you are assertive, outgoing and courageous’ when it seems very clear to you that you are not any of those! This report is not a seamless text. Rather, it is a collection of delineations of features of your birth chart such as planets in signs, planets in houses and aspects between planets. The challenge in writing the delineations that make up this report has been to put them together in such a way that clarity is given to contradictions. If, for instance, Mars in your birth chart is closely associated with both Jupiter and Saturn, then boldness and timidity are both likely to feature. However in most cases I have not written a delineation that takes account of both associations within a single portion of text. In the case of aspects between planets a numerical value for the strength of the aspects is given. Where delineations appear contradictory you will probably notice that the aspect with the greater strength is more noticeable in your life. (As a general rule a strength of 4 or more is strong, less than 2 is weak.) Also, if you read the descriptions of the sign and house positions of each planet, you should recognise the areas in your life where each of the apparently contradictory traits operates. In a few cases the same delineation may appropriately appear in two different place in your report, and in such cases you may see it repeated.

This report has two principle aims.

1.) To help you to recognise that your temperament and personality traits are just fine the way that they are - you do not need to change them. Over the years, I have found that one of the main benefits clients gain from a consultation is the relief that their personality traits are confirmed by their birth charts. For instance, someone who prefers to make decisions based on a kind of ‘gut instinct’ may look on with envy at someone who prefers a more rational or ‘common sense’ approach. An introvert surrounded by extroverts may feel under pressure to change, as if introversion was an inferior way of being. The birth chart can recognise these traits and affirm their validity.

2.) To help you, given that your temperament is as it is, to recognise patterns in your life that may be holding you back from all that you have it in you to be. Such recognition may help you to make choices about how you live your life that will result in breaking through those patterns. I hope you will also find in the report indications as to sources of help for the challenges you face.

In pursuit of these aims I have constructed this report according to a sequence that should guide you into greater depth as it proceeds. The components of the sequence will be described briefly here and in greater detail during the report:

1.) Ascendant or Rising Sign and its Ruler

This is the zodiacal sign that was rising at the moment of your birth. It says much about what primarily motivates you in life, which may have to do, for instance, with freedom of expression or with the meeting of physical or emotional needs. Together with planets aspecting the ascendant, planets in the 1st house (about to rise at birth) and the planet ruling the ascendant, this traditionally shows the quality of what might be called your ‘life force’.

2.) The Moon

This shows how you instinctively respond to events in your day to day life, and where you wish to escape to when taking time off from your main purpose in life. It shows where you seek safety and security. Together with the Ascendant it is the main indicator of temperament.

3.) The Sun

In contrast with the Ascendant and the Moon, this shows where some conscious effort is normally required in order to find and fulfil your purpose in life. This does not come instinctively, it has to be worked for, and you will not feel complete without it.

4.) The Planets

Together with the Sun and the Moon each of these is a significator for some tangible or experiential aspect of your life. Throughout this report reference to planets may include the Sun and the Moon unless the context indicates otherwise.

Each planet in your chart falls in a sign and in a house. The sign in which a planet is placed influences the way in which it acts in your chart. The house shows the area in your life, e.g. money, relationships and career, in which it operates. In addition to the house in which a planet falls, that planet may rule one or more other houses, linking the matters governed by those houses with the house in which the planet is placed. I go into more detail about this towards the end of this report.

Each planet is considered dignified (well-placed) in certain signs and debilitated (poorly placed) in others. The two principal levels of dignity are rulership and exaltation, those of debility are detriment and fall. A dignified planet will add benefit to the matters of the house in which it is placed and to that which it rules. A debilitated planet will make the matters of those houses more challenging. If a planet has any of these four levels of dignity or debility in the sign in which it falls, I will say so in this report.

In addition, each planet may form an aspect with one or more other planets, indicating ways in which these planets could work together to your advantage, or where you may have to struggle to reconcile different experiences in your life. The major aspects are the sextile, square, trine and opposition. Minor aspects also covered in this report are the semi-square and the sesquiquadrate. A planet may also be conjunct, that is, close to, another. As mentioned above, this report will indicate the strength of each aspect in your chart. Any score of 4 or more is strong, less than 2 is weak, but do not ignore any of them.

Leo Ascendant

In an age in which one’s Sun sign is pedalled as of over-riding importance, as indicated by the preponderance of Sun sign columns in popular newspapers and magazines, it may seem strange not to start this report with a description of yours. The reason is that your ascendant says something far more basic about you than does your Sun sign. It describes your primary motivation in life. Some people, having a fire sign (Aries, Leo or Sagittarius) rising, are motivated primarily by the desire for freedom of action; others, having an air sign (Gemini, Libra or Aquarius) rising by the desire for freedom of movement; others, having an earth sign (Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn) rising by the need for physical security; others, having a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces) rising, by the need for emotional security. Planets aspecting the ascendant or in the 1st house, especially any in the same sign as the ascendant, influence the primary motivation. The planet that rules your ascendant shows, by its sign and house position, the way in which you attempt to achieve your primary motivation. It does not make sense to look at your Sun sign until we have looked at what motivates you at a more instinctive level. That is why we will even look at your Moon before we look at your Sun (unless your Ascendant is Leo in which case the Sun is your chart ruler).

Your Ascendant is Leo, a fire sign, indicating a strong desire for freedom of action and the power to achieve anything you want. You come across to others as confident, generous and warm-hearted. Other features in your chart may suggest appearances could be deceptive, if so, others will notice this over time. Whatever the truth, you want to be appreciated for who you are and your self-confidence may take a knock if this appreciation is not forthcoming. You have a knack for imagining how to bring a project towards a successful conclusion and would prefer managerial oversight to the routine grind of getting the job done. You may see life as a drama with yourself as the leading actor with the other actors depending on you for their significance (just as the planets depend on the Sun, the ruler of Leo). In relationships you are instinctively loyal, but wish to maintain freedom and independence and desire the same for your partner. However, you may wish to be the one in charge when it comes to making joint decisions. If you’re worthy of taking charge that’s fine, if not you may run into conflict and suffer punctures to your overbearing attitude.

Leo is ruled by the Sun. The Sun is therefore your chart ruler and will be described next after aspects to your Ascendant and planets (if any) in your 1st House.

Ascendant conjunct Mercury  (Strength:  8.88)

You approach life with curiosity and a desire to communicate with people. You come across as bright and witty (other chart factors agreeing) but you may not convey as much emotional depth as you actually have. You probably like to talk about yourself, and if you can do so without being either egotistical or flippant this can be endearing. You might channel this desire into autobiographical writing. Any siblings you have could also be a regular topic of conversation.

Ascendant conjunct Pluto  (Strength:  7.82)

Your interaction with the world and other people may be inhibited by your fear that others may see more about you than you want to reveal. Perhaps you had an intense experience, or even a brush with death, at some time in your life, and this has put you in touch with a deeper layer of your personality. This could be something dark you do not want others to see, or something precious which, if you revealed it to anyone not ready to receive it, would lead to a loss of the energy it gives you. It is perfectly in order to be circumspect about to whom you reveal your treasures, and you need to trust someone before you give too much away, whether you perceive it as light or dark. Denial of hidden aspects of your own nature could lead you to keep a tight control over life for fear others put you in touch with matters you do not wish to contact. Hence the possibility of being what is sometimes called a ‘control freak’. If others shun your company this could be the catalyst needed to explore these issues.

Ascendant sextile Neptune  (Strength:  1.83)

Whatever the practical realities of your daily life, you have the capacity to look beyond them, or to imagine them as shot through with more significance than meets the eye. Imagination and intuition are key qualities you have, and could give you a mysterious aura which others find attractive.

Mercury in the First House

You approach life with curiosity, eager to glean information and knowledge and to pass it on, and to find connections between one subject and another. This will be done in the manner indicated by the sign Mercury is in and by any planet it closely aspects. You may have a reputation for being clever, crafty, sociable and tactful, or sly, deceitful and opportunistic. You may notice more readily than most people that your life is deeply affected by the way you think about it. A change in your attitude of mind can have a profound effect on your experience of life. You may have the secret of eternal youth, displaying the aura of someone who never quite grows up.

.

Venus in the First House

You are probably much liked for your charming friendly nature and your desire to relate to others with ample consideration for their wants and needs. You prefer to enter into life with joy and enthusiasm but may look for flattery from others if you do not appreciate and love yourself first. Since you attract others to you very easily you need to exercise discretion about friendships and relationships you enter into. Your desire to please and to be valued may cloud right judgment in these matters.

Pluto in the First House

The house position of Pluto shows an area of life through which any unresolved emotional conflicts within you are channelled. This can give rise to an obsession with that area and an attempt to control their expression, lest letting go releases pent-up feelings in a way that cannot be handled by the conscious mind. The obsession can have a positive outcome if it is accompanied by working towards greater self-knowledge and acceptance. Deeply ingrained complexes can find an outlet through the matters governed by this house. Matters governed by a faster-moving planet are similarly affected if in aspect with Pluto.

Wherever Pluto is in the chart life can go through periodic changes of such depth that they feel like death to the old and rebirth into something new. With Pluto in the 1st house this experience affects the whole personality. The way you view life, the way others perceive you, and what it is that you seek in and from other people can go through fundamental changes. You can resist these changes if you want to. Your instinctive approach probably will be to resist them because you may have suffered traumatic experiences in your early years which led you to live cautiously. In response to such experiences you adopted a way of life that felt safe and protected you from further distress. When you are called upon in later years to change your approach to life your safety feels threatened and you resist.  It would be helpful if you could stand back and watch yourself resisting! If that sounds strange, try to bear in mind that the self that resists is not your true self but a restricted version of it. If you watch yourself resist you can let go of the resistance and enter a new and more fulfilling phase of life. Your experience of periodic change, or at least the challenge to change, leads you to view life with greater intensity than most, to see beneath the superficial layer of life on which some people live. Life at depth can be a lonely experience, especially in terms of personal relationships where you are reluctant to commit to another because you can see through his or her persona and need to connect at a deeper level. Others may be reluctant to get close to you because they perceive at some level that they cannot get away with anything less than the truth, and they sense you may not be very forgiving of faults. Others find it easier to grow if accepted as they are. In relationships Pluto in the 1st does have a reputation for power games where one partner or the other tries to exercise undue control. This could be due to reluctance to let go of a relationship once one has been formed that offers a deep enough experience. Alternatively it could be due to a fear of re-awakening past painful feelings that a relationship hides as long as nothing changes.

Ascendant Ruler and Dispositor

Leo is on the cusp of this house, so it is ruled by the Sun.

Sun in Cancer and in the Twelfth House

Your Sun sign shows the qualities you need to develop if you are to feel that life has some purpose, and so feel more fulfilled. Such development does not normally happen instinctively, it has to be worked for consciously. The house occupied by your Sun shows the area of life in which you need to express those qualities. Doing so will help you to establish a firm sense of identity. A planet aspecting the Sun needs to be allowed to contribute to the establishment of that sense of identity. Such contribution could be positive, but may come across as negative and delay your development, but the struggle involved can give you great strength if successfully engaged. Until you reach maturity, your Ascendant and Moon are usually more in evidence than your Sun sign. If you have ever tried guessing someone’s Sun sign and got it wrong, it could well be that what you actually guessed was his or her Ascendant or Moon sign, but you would not have known since most people do not have such information. However, since your Ascendant is Leo the Sun rules your chart and may therefore be more immediately obvious.

You were born shortly after sunrise, indicating that the Sun wants to express itself strongly, but is vulnerable due to its recent emergence from subterranean depths. You may have been at risk in your early years of over-exposure to thoughts and feelings of other people, especially within your family, that challenged your slowly emerging sense of who you were. This would have required an emotional maturity beyond your years. The thoughts and feelings you had you would then have withdrawn and they would likely have become unconscious. However such energy must show itself somehow. One way is through what are generally known as psychosomatic illnesses, where the energy disturbs the natural functioning of the body. Another is through other people who manifest the energy one fears to reveal and manifest even to oneself. You would experience other people as hostile even when they are not deliberately so, moreover, you would not necessarily be able to identify clearly where the hostility is coming from. These repressed energies will give you a false conception of your identity so it is important you do not identify with who you perceive yourself to be, sometimes known as your ego. But if you detach yourself from your ego they can work in your favour. Practically this means you could do work where the welfare of others is enhanced rather than your own reward for doing it. If you are able to explore your hidden feelings and integrate them then as a result of your emotional maturity you may have more to offer than the Sun in any other house.

Some of the most challenging experiences of your life may have arisen in the context of family life, yet you are your most fulfilled and effective when you can feel yourself part of a family. In an ideal world this would always be a natural family, with a marriage partner and children. But you can create or visualise a family in any situation you are in, whether it be in your work, amongst your friends or with any with whom you share a spiritual or philosophical outlook. Cancer is the sign of motherhood, and like a mother you aim to be sensitive to the needs of those whom you see as part of your family, nurturing and encouraging them. Such sensitivity is not always appreciated in working situations and to protect yourself you may develop a thick skin. For your own good, if you cannot encourage those around you to see the value of your sensitive ways it may be best to move to another setting in which you can pursue your career and be true to your nature at the same time. Mothers are often ambitious for their children and Cancerians do have a reputation for being keen to rise to the top of their career. Just as a mother might bury her nurturing qualities in order to push her child forward in life, so a careerist might put his or her sensitivity aside when pursuing success.

There is something innately traditional or conservative about family orientation. Once you have built a family, of whatever kind, around you, alternative lifestyles or points of view may be seen as a threat and you act to protect your brood. Countries as well as people have birth charts, and that for the United States has the Sun in Cancer. A characteristic stance of the US towards the rest of the world is: you are either on our side or you are against us. If you are a boss in your work place you might protect yourself by surrounding yourself with people who agree with you and are more likely to support your decisions. If you are an employee you are likely to loyal and respectful of authority.

Cancer is ruled by the Moon which therefore influences the Sun in your chart, especially if they aspect each other. See the description of the Moon in this report for further guidance as to how the Sun operates in your chart.

Sun square Moon  (Strength:  2.38)

Restlessness is a common experience in your life. The demands of your work or other goals in life seems to conflict with what your soul requires. Learning to be content with the time out that you have without guilt or otherwise feeling the need to get back to more goal-oriented activity can be difficult. Until you do learn it your relationships may suffer. If you cannot be relaxed about the apparently warring factions within your own psyche, then a feeling of contentment within an intimate relationship will evade you. Your restlessness may well reflect a difficult relationship between your parents, and an experience of conflict because you found that pleasing one meant displeasing the other. You may have to negotiate with the different aspects of your nature, agreeing with one to let the other have time, promising the first that its turn will come later.

The struggle involved in handling this aspect can lead to great strength of character leading to professional success and a useful contribution to the lives of others, but not necessarily great happiness in your own life.

If the Sun is in Cancer you may be subject to fears for which, when you stand back and examine them, there appears to be no reason, but which will not go away. Shyness in the presence of strangers is a common symptom. You may find a way through this if you manage to observe your fears without identifying with them.

If the Sun is in Capricorn you can be diplomatic, harnessing your desire for peace and harmony to good ends, provided you allow your personal ambitions to work towards those ends also.

(This aspect is less significant if the Sun is neither in Cancer nor in Capricorn.)

Moon in Libra

Your Moon sign shows how you instinctively respond to events in your day to day life, and your means of escape when taking time off from your main purpose in life. It shows how you seek safety and security. The house occupied by your Moon shows the area of life where you seek solace, and in which changes can significantly affect your mood. A planet aspecting the Moon colours your feeling nature and your instinctive responses to circumstances in your life.

You have an ideal of justice and harmony in all your dealings with others, especially in close relationships which are very important to you. You never want to rock the boat, and fear that any display of strong emotion will do so, therefore you tend to hide your feelings until you find it impossible to contain them any longer and a sudden outburst can break the harmony. Alternatively you may walk away from a long-term relationship leaving your partner amazed because you had never expressed any dissatisfaction.

Your appreciation of harmony extends to your approach to art and music, all forms of which conform to your aesthetic sense you probably enjoy. Discordant sounds and many of the more garish forms of modern art you avoid. Your home is likely to be tastefully decorated with beautiful ornaments, with everything arranged in such a way as to be pleasing to the eye.

Anger, aggression and assertiveness are alien qualities to you, therefore you have difficulty asserting your own wishes and in making decisions as to what is the right way forward in any area of life, especially if you feel there is a risk that anyone will be upset. You may excel in situations where diplomacy is required, especially amongst close family and friends. Others may come to you to help resolve disputes and negotiate compromises in such a way that all parties will be satisfied with the outcome. You may even be professionally involved in this area.

If you are a mother you will wish to maintain a good relationship with your children and mediate in any quarrels between them. Being too young to be civilised they may remind you of the more instinctual sides of your own nature and this may feel uncomfortable. You’ll want to clear up any mess. You also encourage any artistic inclinations.

Libra is ruled by Venus which therefore influences the Moon in your chart, especially if they aspect each other. See the description of Venus in this report for further guidance as to how the Moon operates in your chart.

Moon in the Third House

You look to your immediate surroundings for emotional security, being keen on chatting with neighbours. Even when the topics of conversation are intellectual and rational and you believe you are being objective, there are likely to be emotional reasons for choosing those topics and any conclusions you come to will relate to emotional needs. Reading books, newspapers and journals (rather than more advanced study) are likely to be favoured off-duty pursuits. Your relationships with siblings, especially to female ones, are ones you hope will be a source of comfort to you. You may have a talent for writing or speaking, with a slant towards content with emotional weight or the description of personal memories.

Moon conjunct Jupiter  (Strength:  10.22)

You have a good-natured temperament, helpful and sympathetic, and can be very protective to those in trouble, especially any in your own family or otherwise known to you personally. Your instinct is to trust others, and this trust is generally rewarded. You are drawn towards interests that take you out of day to day concerns, such as religion, spirituality, drama or foreign travel. Such interests may not be well developed intellectually and you might find it difficult to argue a case for them, but that won’t concern you much as their positive contribution to your life does not depend on having such a case. There is just a chance that your conviction about the truth of a spiritual philosophy could lead you to be over-concerned that others should share it, and this could cloud the benefits you have to offer. The sense of security which your belief system gives to you may not be shared by others. You could feel quite at home living abroad.

Moon trine Uranus  (Strength:  4.00)

The Moon signifies emotional and security needs in which Uranus has no interest, so this combination is a difficult one to live out with contentment. Uranus was discovered at a time when new discoveries were being made, new knowledge acquired, about the world and the universe which upset the way things had been looked at for centuries past. Translated into personal terms, your need for security and connection with others is compromised by ideas you have about the way life ought to be, and this leads to a tussle between what you need to feel secure, and a desire for the independence necessary to explore new, perhaps unusual, ventures. Probably you can manage this tension well, partly because you have the insight (Uranus) to know what your emotional needs (Moon) really are. You are less likely than some to fool yourself into believing something you want is a need, when actually it is a compulsive desire for something unnecessary for your well-being. Your desire for independence is likely to show itself mainly in an interest in science or alternative philosophies, and your attachment to these may be strong enough to lead you to believe that pursuing them is an ideal way of life that requires sacrifice of home and family needs. In some cases this could be honourable, but in others it arises out of a denial of emotional needs that compromises any benefits obtained from the interests pursued. Ideals are fine, but often people attach themselves to ideals that are less than the best. Ideals that do not allow for common human physical and emotional needs can never be the best. You probably make a good friend where it comes to sharing ideals and common interests, but you keep your distance if a friend tries to cling to you or seek your empathy over some emotional distress (if you find the attempt to talk him or her out of it unsuccessful).

Your Temperament

Mediaeval astrologers used the birth chart to assess the balance of four temperament types: Choleric, Melancholic, Sanguine and Phlegmatic - corresponding roughly to Fire, Earth, Air and Water. Their method was more sophisticated than the common modern one of simply adding up the number of planets in signs of each element. The assessment of your temperament which follows is based on the mediaeval method within the limitations of the software I am using. Greatest weight is given to the Ascendant, the Moon sign and the Season (as indicated by the Sun sign). Since the seasons are reversed in the southern hemisphere from what they are in the northern, and different in tropical regions, this assessment may be somewhat less accurate for births in those parts of the world.

Your birth chart indicates a choleric/sanguine temperament. This shows as quick reactions to everything going on around you, and an inclination to act decisively to bring about that which you desire. You spend little time sitting around pondering what to do, but are much happier actively engaged in life, typically with yourself in charge of whatever you are doing. Your concern for good relations between yourself and others should make it easier for you to interest others in your plans, motivating them if appropriate, than the purely choleric person. Thus you not only have the energy and inspiration to initiate projects, but also to focus necessary to bring them to completion. However you may get bored easily if working on one project for too long. Your energy is obvious to everyone, including some who may find it difficult to be close to you for long, they being of a more introverted temperament. If you lack confidence you will not want to show it. Humility does not come easily to you. People with a melancholic temperament you find it hard to understand and get on with, especially if you have a disagreement and they turn out to be right.

Mercury in Leo

Your Mercury sign indicates how your mind works, the way you think and perceive things, whether, for instance, you do so intuitively or in a rigid and set way. It also indicates how you communicate, and how you gather and pass on ideas and information. The house occupied by Mercury shows as area of life that occupies your mind and where you might be able to change the way you experience that area by the way you think about it. Planets aspecting Mercury affect the way your mind works and your approach to matters that interest you.

You can be dramatic in your self-expression and this can have quite an impact on people who, if you are in a supervisory role, may be motivated to carry out your wishes. You may be excellent at working out an overall design for a project, and then be content to leave the details to others. You may want to express yourself creatively through various art forms with striking results. Your imagination is rich and you may think that all your dreams can become true and that all your designs are capable of practical application. You may enjoy being on stage, whether in the theatre or in giving a presentation to an audience which gives you rapt attention (lack of attention will hurt you).

Your impatience to impress others with the knowledge you have may lead you to talk to others about it before you have studied in sufficient depth. You may be so proud of your own knowledge that you find it hard to hear the views of others. You may be a great inspiration to others, but they may not always want to hear you if you only want to talk about your self and your opinions.

Leo is ruled by the Sun which therefore influences Mercury in your chart. See the description of the Sun in this report for further guidance as to how Mercury operates in your chart.

You may have the secret of eternal youth, displaying the aura of someone who never quite grows up.

.

Mercury conjunct Pluto  (Strength:  11.01)

If you cannot explore a subject in depth then it is unlikely you take any interest in it at all. Your mind cannot rest until it has explored a topic more deeply than other people do. The knowledge you acquire can be offensive to those with whom you converse. They may deny the truth you have found, probably because it touches something deep inside them they do not wish to acknowledge. You may well keep such knowledge to yourself because in divulging it you give away secrets about yourself you wish to keep hidden. Sometimes such knowledge may be too much for others to bear, in which case to keep it to yourself may be the wisest thing to do. Such penetrating insight can give you great power which needs to be used wisely.

Mercury conjunct Ascendant  (Strength:  8.88)

You approach life with curiosity and a desire to communicate with people. You come across as bright and witty (other chart factors agreeing) but you may not convey as much emotional depth as you actually have. You probably like to talk about yourself, and if you can do so without being either egotistical or flippant this can be endearing. You might channel this desire into autobiographical writing. Any siblings you have could also be a regular topic of conversation.

Venus in Leo

Your Venus sign is indicative of your values and what you appreciate in a person or object. It shows the kind of experiences you seek and tend to meet in relationships and the way you go about interacting with others, and indicates your dress sense. The house occupied by Venus shows an area of life where you seek beauty, pleasure and fulfilment, and which you may value more then others. Planets aspecting Venus influence the qualities that you value or find attractive and the extent to which you actually enjoy them. They also show the kinds of interactions you have in relationships.

You love extravagantly, in your affections, in gifts to one you love, and in your constancy. You enjoy the adulation you get for your generosity, and may be somewhat offended if such appreciation is lacking. You like to be flattered by your partner and will take steps to encourage such attention, which may include good dress sense, offering meals out in expensive restaurants and a home displaying examples of high art. You are likely to be the centre of attention amongst your friends, from whom you profit both financially and by greater enjoyment of life and its pleasures. You may enjoy life in the entertainment business or anywhere where drama is inherent, and this may siphon off what may otherwise be excessive drama in your love life. You may enjoy increased status by marriage with its social advantages.

Leo is ruled by the Sun which therefore influences Venus in your chart, especially if they aspect each other. See the description of the Sun in this report for further guidance as to how Venus operates in your chart.

Venus trine Midheaven  (Strength:  2.29)

You have an instinct for diplomacy in all your dealings in the world, whether in your career or otherwise. You could be known for your charm and your tactful approach to getting things done and achieve recognition and advancement for it. You prefer an attractive and peaceful working environment, and perhaps a career promoting beauty and luxury.

Mars in Virgo

Your Mars sign shows the manner of your aggression and assertion. You may have very direct or roundabout methods of getting what you want. You feel good if you express yourself in the manner of this sign. The house occupied by Mars shows the area of life in which you need to develop skill. Should you fail to do so, there may be consequences for your sense of well-being, and this may affect your health. You could also get very angry when the affairs of this house do not go well. Watch lest you blame others for your own failings. Planets aspecting Mars indicate further your method of self-assertion and may also suggest an area of life about which you could feel good if you were to develop it.

You harness your energy to practical tasks which you carry out with great precision. You take pride in taking trouble to complete those tasks efficiently and to the best of your ability. Should you make any mistakes you hope you discover them before anyone else does, lest your pride be hurt. When it comes to the expression of anger or aggression you are somewhat reticent, and unless you are fully aware of and in charge of your feelings they may emerge in the form of irritation and complaints about matters other than what really bothers you. Your health may also suffer, especially your digestive system. Keeping fit, by attention to both diet and exercise, will reap long-term benefit.

Mars is a very instinctual energy, and it’s sexual expression can be somewhat restrained by Virgo’s concern for usefulness and efficiency. Sex can seem messy and to be without obvious purpose (unless you are intending pregnancy). It might be good to remember that bodily pleasure can of itself be very therapeutic, leading to a vibrant flow of energy.

Virgo is ruled by Mercury which therefore influences Mars in your chart, especially if they aspect each other. See the description of Mercury in this report for further guidance as to how Mars operates in your chart.

Mars in the Second House

If you are seeking greater financial security, more money and articles of value, you instinct is to fight in a very direct way to get them. This can be counter-productive if tact and diplomacy are more appropriate ways to get what you want. Your anger and aggression could be taken out on valuables and you may find yourself breaking such articles accidentally, or even deliberately if you lose your temper. Possessions may be symbols of power for you, perhaps a substitute for true inner power and authority. You may earn your living through activities related to Mars, such as the military or engineering.

Jupiter in Libra

Your Jupiter sign shows the kind of qualities you value and have faith in, whether or not you are successful in achieving them in your own life. The house occupied by Jupiter indicates an area of life where (subject to other chart factors) you can achieve success more readily than in other areas. Sometimes it may seem like good fortune or luck rather than achievement. Jupiter in aspect to a faster-moving planet generally facilitates the matters governed by that planet.

Peace, justice and harmony are principles you see as worthy of aiming for, even if in your own personal experience they are hard to achieve. You value anything that is beautiful and may judge yourself harshly if you find yourself attracted to a way of life that in principle you see as sordid or ugly. When it comes to moral concerns you find it difficult to make a decision if you see justice in more than one option. You may expect peace and harmony in your life but be unwilling to do anything to achieve them. It is very unlikely that life is as harmoniously balanced as you believe it should be!

Libra is ruled by Venus which therefore influences Jupiter in your chart, especially if they aspect each other. See the description of Venus in this report for further guidance as to how Jupiter operates in your chart.

Jupiter in the Third House

You enjoy gleaning information and gaining knowledge in a carefree manner that could lead to your believing you know it all when actually important details are missing. What you do know you like to share in such a way that others are inspired by your words. Such inspiration may happen, but is less likely to if the sound of your own voice or the quality of your insights is more important to you than the accuracy and precision of what you actually share. Reaching out into your local neighbourhood is likely to be a very positive experience for you, and if you have siblings a good relationship is normally indicated though some aspects to Jupiter suggest rivalry.

Jupiter trine Uranus  (Strength:  4.94)

The belief in, and need for, freedom, is a major factor in your life. You can create space in your own life, and also inspire others to break free of limiting patterns of behaviour and belief while respecting that they may find this harder than you to achieve. You do incline to beliefs that are original or contrary to those commonly held, and you would be wise to exercise care in the way you expound these or allow them to influence your life. Uranus signifies the breaking down of that which constrains, and this can be a positive or a negative influence depending on how you exercise it. You are capable of hard work in the service of any cause in which you believe, particularly any which espouses the value and freedom of the individual.

Jupiter opposite Midheaven  (Strength:  1.10)

Your family background was one in which the broadening of horizons was seen as a priority. Education, religion and travel could all have been emphasised. Although protective of you, your parents may not have been around much as their vision of life took them away from home. Your own home, likewise, may be seen as a base for exploration. Such exploration might take place within the home in which case you need plenty of physical space. You probably enjoy welcoming visitors, especially any from other countries or cultures, into your home.

Saturn in Cancer (Detriment)

Your Saturn sign shows the kind of qualities you find it a struggle to express. You may even consider them not worth the effort, or denigrate them in some way. You may attempt to cover up your inhibitions by acting out those qualities in a falsely exaggerated manner. The house occupied by Saturn indicates an area of life whose mature expression is often subject to delay and frustration. It may take most of a lifetime to learn how to live with fulfilment in that area, but the reward for doing so will be great. Saturn in aspect to a faster-moving planet generally requires that planet to work harder to achieve success in the matters governed by that planet. The result of such work could be a more mature expression of those matters.

The sign of Cancer signifies emotional security within home and family, approaching the world with feeling rather than with the intellect, a helpful nurturing support to any in need. Saturn here indicates a stifling of these qualities, perhaps brought on by a lack of emotional support in childhood. There is likely to be a yawning gap between your desire for a warm loving family life, and the reality you experience. This can lead you to be very demanding on family members, especially any children you have, to rally round you to cover up the big black hole you experience where love should be. If you don’t have a conventional family, then those in any area of life which is family to you are likely to have the same expectations imposed on them. Any family member with the smallest desire for independence will resist your demands making life very painful for you until you come to terms with it. If you are a parent you may feel you have a right to expect unlimited devotion from your children. You may even start a family in order to create around you people who have such devotion to you. Finding it difficult to contact and express your emotions freely your attachment to what you long for may be expressed with sentimentality rather than with true feeling. Maturity involves watching yourself to observe your distress at the lack of the sense of belonging that you desire rather than getting caught up in it. When you accept that it is not the responsibility of your family members to make you feel wanted or needed, they are more likely to want to be in your company. Inner peace can come when you accept your feeling of lack and longing. Then you may be able to support others, maybe those from broken families, with the great empathy that arises from knowing what it is like to be in their situation and to have achieved a deep acceptance of it.

Cancer is ruled by the Moon which therefore influences Saturn in your chart, especially if they aspect each other. See the description of the Moon in this report for further guidance as to how Saturn operates in your chart.

Saturn in the Twelfth House

You may be one of many people who go through life at the mundane level without any serious difficulties, with some satisfaction in your career, relationships and other areas, but with an underlying feeling that life is not all it could be. The chances are that you live your life at the conscious level while unconsciously there are unresolved issues that need attention, but are not strong enough to disrupt the relative serenity of your day to day life. You may feel that there is a saboteur out there somewhere whom you cannot identify, who is out to sap your inner confidence that all is well. One day you will probably find these issues can no longer be avoided. What you are avoiding is the sense of wanting to loosen the boundary between your conscious life and the great ocean of wealth that can be tapped by connecting with the universal energy that lies behind all existence. You fear that by connecting with this you will lose your sense of individuality, and thus your ability to live successfully in your daily life. What you will gain is a deeper connection with life and a greater capacity for intimacy. In practice a deeper connection with life may mean sacrificing some of your personal life in order to serve those who cannot live successfully in the world and have to hide, or be hidden, in institutions such as hospitals, asylums or prisons.

Saturn square Midheaven  (Strength:  2.72)

You take your activities in the world very seriously, with a strong sense of responsibility but maybe a disinclination to accept help when such help might be beneficial. If in a career you are prepared to work hard to progress, but sometimes the struggle can be so great there is a temptation to give up. Lack of confidence about your abilities could result in delays in finding your place in the world.

Uranus in the Eleventh House

For centuries the skills exercised by astrologers were practised successfully without reference to Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, these planets having yet to be discovered. Some modern astrologers have given them rulership of signs, but the stance taken in this report, based on my own experience in reading charts, is that such rulerships have limited value and the traditional rulerships have been retained. However, their significance in birth charts can be considerable, especially if they are angular (close to the Ascendant, Midheaven, Descendant or Imum Coeli) or in close aspect to other planets. Uranus stays in the same sign for seven years, Pluto for up to thirty. Therefore the sign placements of these planets in individual birth charts are not normally significant (their influence being generational) and are not delineated in this report. Their house positions, however, are worthy of consideration.
The house position of Uranus indicates an area of life where an independent free-thinking stance is preferred. Rules and expectations are experienced as frustrating and will often be breached, sometimes in what others would regard as an outrageous manner. This can be disruptive, especially in areas of life where fidelity and stability are assets. Care must be taken to create a framework in which freedom can be exercised as well as commitment. Uranus in aspect to a faster-moving planet can add excitement and insight to its workings, but also a wish to break out of any limitations.

Your idea of friends is a group of people with whom you share a common interest in humanitarian concerns of some kind. Intimacy with the group is not likely to occur, indeed you can be quite stand-offish and hard to get to know personally. You have high ideals of friendship and expect others in the group to live up to them. Within the group you may well be the innovator, coming up with the most original ideas, some of them useful, some outlandish and impractical. As an alternative to groups with humanitarian concerns you may seek association with eccentric people who wake you up to aspects of your own nature with which you have hidden from yourself and would benefit from expressing.

Neptune in the Third House

The house position of Neptune shows the area of life where you seek an experience that reaches beyond the mundane necessities of daily life. You could try to enrich those areas, exercising your imagination so that some kind of transcendent reality can shine through them. Alternatively you could choose to sacrifice earthly satisfaction in that area of life in the name of what you see as a more spiritual mode of existence. The conflict between the necessities of day to day living and the desire for something beyond it could signify difficulties for you in the matters governed by this house. Neptune in aspect to a faster-moving planet has a similar significance.

You find it more difficult than some to focus your mind clearly on a particular issue and communicate clearly about it. You are reluctant to define any issue clearly because you can sense beyond the boundaries. Maybe you feel words cannot convey what you want to say. You want to communicate how something feels, and words may not seem an appropriate vehicle for doing so. Because of this you may come across to others as less intelligent than you actually are. Others may think that your difficulty in expressing yourself clearly in words implies a defective mind. This may have been an issue in your schooldays when you came across as having nothing to say on a particular subject when the real problem was you couldn’t express your thoughts in the approved way and your intelligence went unrecognised. Based on your own experience you may be good at teaching children with learning difficulties. If you do succeed in putting your thoughts and feelings into words it may be in such a way that you manage to reach people in a way that reason and logic cannot do, thereby enlarging their understanding. Perhaps you could do this by expressing yourself in poetry or song. Experiences with siblings are covered by this house. Perhaps you have to make sacrifices on behalf of a sibling or, if one has died, you experience a sense of guilt about it as if you were responsible when probably you were not.

House Rulers and Dispositors

We now come to the houses in your birth chart. There are twelve of these, each referring to a different area of your life. The 1st house is the Ascendant and this has already been described early in this report. Now follow the other eleven, first the so-called angular houses, the Midheaven, the Descendant and the Imum Coeli, then the remaining eight. I have already delineated the house position of each planet in your chart, and for the delineation of any house, planets within it are the most important factors. However, each house is also ruled by a planet which will not normally be within it. For each house following I will specify its ruling planet. The house in which that planet resides indicates how the affairs of the house it rules might turn out.

For instance, if the ruler of the Midheaven or 10th house (activities in the world) is in the 5th (entertainment, children etc.), then your career might involve working in the entertainment industry or with children. If it does not you might consider it as an option. If the ruler of the 2nd house (money, possessions) is in the Descendant or 7th, your financial affairs will be influenced (for good or ill) by your partnerships or relationships. For each house, check again the delineation already given above for its ruler. This will tell you how the affairs of that house might turn out.

Aries Midheaven (10th House)

The Midheaven is the highest point in the birth chart, where the Sun is at midday. The sign in which it falls and planets in the 10th house signify the way you reach out into the world and the kind of activities that could be appropriate for you therein. Such activities do not necessarily constitute your career, but ideally they would be included within it. (For consideration of your career direction the Ascendant, its ruler, the Sun, the Moon and the 10th house are all relevant.) The greater the number of planets in the 10th house of your birth chart, especially if the Sun is one of them, the more frustrated you will feel if you do not have significant activity outside of your home and family environment. If family commitments tie you, then you might give some consideration to ways of rearranging them so that you do have opportunities for activities beyond them. Your experience of your mother may be shown by this house.

Your role in society is to be an initiative taker, and you will be most fulfilled in a career that enables you to carry out that role. Whatever you do in the world, you may see yourself as engaged in a battle which you are determined to win.

Aries is on the cusp of this house, so it is ruled by Mars.

Aquarius Descendant (7th House)

Opposite the Ascendant, the Descendant indicates your experience of yourself in relation to another person. Usually it begins as the way in which you experience the other person, and the kind of person to whom you are attracted (but note there are many other indicators of this in the chart). The sign on the Descendant and any planets in the 7th house show qualities you look for in another person. They may be qualities, desirable or otherwise, that you repeatedly find in people to whom you are attracted. As a general rule they are traits within you that may be undeveloped or of which you are unaware, and the relationship gives you an opportunity to wake up to them.

Among the qualities you find attractive in other people are friendliness, gregariousness and willingness to be part of a team (maybe one with you in charge!) To the extent that you own life may revolve around your own desire for recognition, such people may help you to take more account of the needs and aspirations of others and bring a ray of sunshine into their lives.

Aquarius is on the cusp of this house, so it is ruled by Saturn.

Libra IC (4th House)

Opposite the Midheaven this is the lowest point in the birth chart, where the Sun is at midnight. The sign in which it falls and planets in the 4th house signify your experience of your home and family (in particular of your father), of your soul and most personal space, that without which you cannot reach out into the world (10th house) in a satisfactory way.

Peace and harmony in your home life is a base from which you can reach out into the world with greater confidence, as is the establishment of a clear set of values by which you live your life. Your home may not be expensively furnished but should still be pleasing to the senses so that you feel comfortable in it.

Libra is on the cusp of this house, so it is ruled by Venus.
