Introduction

It can be rather disconcerting to be told, in a report such as this, that ‘you are assertive, outgoing and courageous’ when it seems very clear to you that you are not any of those! This report is not a seamless text. Rather, it is a collection of delineations of features of your birth chart such as planets in signs, planets in houses and aspects between planets. The challenge in writing the delineations that make up this report has been to put them together in such a way that clarity is given to contradictions. If, for instance, Mars in your birth chart is closely associated with both Jupiter and Saturn, then boldness and timidity are both likely to feature. However in most cases I have not written a delineation that takes account of both associations within a single portion of text. In the case of aspects between planets a numerical value for the strength of the aspects is given. Where delineations appear contradictory you will probably notice that the aspect with the greater strength is more noticeable in your life. (As a general rule a strength of 4 or more is strong, less than 2 is weak.) Also, if you read the descriptions of the sign and house positions of each planet, you should recognise the areas in your life where each of the apparently contradictory traits operates. In a few cases the same delineation may appropriately appear in two different place in your report, and in such cases you may see it repeated.

This report has two principle aims.

1.) To help you to recognise that your temperament and personality traits are just fine the way that they are - you do not need to change them. Over the years, I have found that one of the main benefits clients gain from a consultation is the relief that their personality traits are confirmed by their birth charts. For instance, someone who prefers to make decisions based on a kind of ‘gut instinct’ may look on with envy at someone who prefers a more rational or ‘common sense’ approach. An introvert surrounded by extroverts may feel under pressure to change, as if introversion was an inferior way of being. The birth chart can recognise these traits and affirm their validity.

2.) To help you, given that your temperament is as it is, to recognise patterns in your life that may be holding you back from all that you have it in you to be. Such recognition may help you to make choices about how you live your life that will result in breaking through those patterns. I hope you will also find in the report indications as to sources of help for the challenges you face.

In pursuit of these aims I have constructed this report according to a sequence that should guide you into greater depth as it proceeds. The components of the sequence will be described briefly here and in greater detail during the report:

1.) Ascendant or Rising Sign and its Ruler

This is the zodiacal sign that was rising at the moment of your birth. It says much about what primarily motivates you in life, which may have to do, for instance, with freedom of expression or with the meeting of physical or emotional needs. Together with planets aspecting the ascendant, planets in the 1st house (about to rise at birth) and the planet ruling the ascendant, this traditionally shows the quality of what might be called your ‘life force’.

2.) The Moon

This shows how you instinctively respond to events in your day to day life, and where you wish to escape to when taking time off from your main purpose in life. It shows where you seek safety and security. Together with the Ascendant it is the main indicator of temperament.

3.) The Sun

In contrast with the Ascendant and the Moon, this shows where some conscious effort is normally required in order to find and fulfil your purpose in life. This does not come instinctively, it has to be worked for, and you will not feel complete without it.

4.) The Planets

Together with the Sun and the Moon each of these is a significator for some tangible or experiential aspect of your life. Throughout this report reference to planets may include the Sun and the Moon unless the context indicates otherwise.

Each planet in your chart falls in a sign and in a house. The sign in which a planet is placed influences the way in which it acts in your chart. The house shows the area in your life, e.g. money, relationships and career, in which it operates. In addition to the house in which a planet falls, that planet may rule one or more other houses, linking the matters governed by those houses with the house in which the planet is placed. I go into more detail about this towards the end of this report.

Each planet is considered dignified (well-placed) in certain signs and debilitated (poorly placed) in others. The two principal levels of dignity are rulership and exaltation, those of debility are detriment and fall. A dignified planet will add benefit to the matters of the house in which it is placed and to that which it rules. A debilitated planet will make the matters of those houses more challenging. If a planet has any of these four levels of dignity or debility in the sign in which it falls, I will say so in this report.

In addition, each planet may form an aspect with one or more other planets, indicating ways in which these planets could work together to your advantage, or where you may have to struggle to reconcile different experiences in your life. The major aspects are the sextile, square, trine and opposition. Minor aspects also covered in this report are the semi-square and the sesquiquadrate. A planet may also be conjunct, that is, close to, another. As mentioned above, this report will indicate the strength of each aspect in your chart. Any score of 4 or more is strong, less than 2 is weak, but do not ignore any of them.

Gemini Ascendant

In an age in which one’s Sun sign is pedalled as of over-riding importance, as indicated by the preponderance of Sun sign columns in popular newspapers and magazines, it may seem strange not to start this report with a description of yours. The reason is that your ascendant says something far more basic about you than does your Sun sign. It describes your primary motivation in life. Some people, having a fire sign (Aries, Leo or Sagittarius) rising, are motivated primarily by the desire for freedom of action; others, having an air sign (Gemini, Libra or Aquarius) rising by the desire for freedom of movement; others, having an earth sign (Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn) rising by the need for physical security; others, having a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces) rising, by the need for emotional security. Planets aspecting the ascendant or in the 1st house, especially any in the same sign as the ascendant, influence the primary motivation. The planet that rules your ascendant shows, by its sign and house position, the way in which you attempt to achieve your primary motivation. It does not make sense to look at your Sun sign until we have looked at what motivates you at a more instinctive level. That is why we will even look at your Moon before we look at your Sun (unless your Ascendant is Leo in which case the Sun is your chart ruler).

Your Ascendant is Gemini, an air sign, indicating a strong desire for freedom of expression and movement. Your desire to be free to move is in order that you can gather as much information as you can and then pass it on to whomever may wish to hear (and maybe some who may not). You may be curious about many things and will learn only as much about them as will satisfy that curiosity. Finding out enough to make a difference is more challenging - probably another interest will absorb you and your fascination with the first will cease. Half-finished books may be scattered about your home as each will not sustain your interest for long enough to finish it. The best way to deal with this may be to deliberately choose two or more different projects to run concurrently and move around between them. Your adaptability and flexibility can then make you well informed about many things (but maybe master of none), and this quality can win your friends who share your interests. Your tendency to approach life with the intellect rather than with the heart can lead to difficulties in areas of life which require you to engage with your feelings. The depth of feeling which others show may fascinate you, but your own feelings may be characterised more by intensity than by depth, with a longing to be able to feel at home with such depth.  You long for a partnership which will quieten your restless mind at the same time as leaving you free to think and act independently. Your chart may show two sides to your personality and you think you need two partners to satisfy each, when loyalty to one would be better while seeking other outlets for your versatility.

Gemini is ruled by Mercury. Mercury is therefore your chart ruler and will be described next after aspects to your Ascendant and planets (if any) in your 1st House.

Mars conjunct Ascendant  (Strength:  10.82)

Whatever it is you want to do, you are impatient to get on with it. Any task can seem like a battle to be won rather than simply a job to do, and this can lead to overlooking some details or ignoring the well-being of others along the way. Expecting opposition even where there is none, you may expend more energy than you need to successfully complete your task.

Jupiter conjunct Ascendant  (Strength:  4.93)

Life is an adventure, the world is to be explored, perhaps literally by extensive travel, or by meeting people from different cultures and religious backgrounds. Your journey might be a spiritual one - you could adopt the persona of a guru and attract a following. You could attract a following anyway for you are likely to be popular for your optimistic and generous attitude.

Mars in the First House

If you did not fight your way out of your mother at birth you still probably approach each new task in life as a battle to be won. It is appropriate for you to take initiatives and face life head on with gusto. At best you are self-directing in a positive way and courageous. A major test in life is what you do when obstacles get in your way, for you are liable to be impatient and then your anger is aroused. It is only too easy to target your anger at other people when it is you yourself who is responsible for the obstruction. If it seems to you that others put obstacles in your way, then maybe you set it up in such a way that such actions by others were likely. There may well be times when anger is justifiable, but watch for the difference between anger (you are in control) and loss of temper (you are out of control - someone has touched a sore point within you for which you are refusing to take responsibility).

Ascendant Ruler and Dispositor

Gemini is on the cusp of this house, so it is ruled by Mercury.

Mercury in Aries and in the Twelfth House

Your Mercury sign indicates how your mind works, the way you think and perceive things, whether, for instance, you do so intuitively or in a rigid and set way. It also indicates how you communicate, and how you gather and pass on ideas and information. The house occupied by Mercury shows as area of life that occupies your mind and where you might be able to change the way you experience that area by the way you think about it. Planets aspecting Mercury affect the way your mind works and your approach to matters that interest you. As ruler of your Ascendant Mercury is especially important in your chart.

You are inclined to think quickly and express an opinion before an idea is fully worked out in your mind. If quick thinking is called for you can excel, but sometimes matters need to be more carefully assessed before deciding on a course of action. You will pursue any new interest with enthusiasm but may not take it to a conclusion before another interest diverts your attention. In your haste you may miss important information.

You can be strident in the way you use your voice, expressing opinions with such vigour that others hesitate to oppose you even when they can easily see flaws in your argument. You enjoy debate and argument and may pick a row just for the fun of it. A sharp tongue can land you in trouble and it would be as well to learn some tact. Even if you are not angry your tone of voice may suggest you are. If anyone has a cause to promote you are a good person to have on board as you will be a strong champion for it in debate.

Another thing to watch is that communication or learning experiences early in your life may have been hurtful to the extent you were unable to deal with them in your conscious life. The feelings associated with them were buried. A lot of soul-searching may be needed in order to re-integrate these into consciousness and deal with them in such a way that was impossible for you earlier in your life. Watching your dreams could offer a significant benefit here. Failure to do the work necessary may result in irrational fears about what others are thinking or saying about you. Some with Mercury in the 12th have psychic abilities, but these need to be carefully tested to ensure they are real and beneficial. With some experience and maturity you could help others who have speech or learning difficulties.

Aries is ruled by Mars which therefore influences Mercury in your chart, especially if they aspect each other. See the description of Mars in this report for further guidance as to how Mercury operates in your chart.

Mercury square Midheaven  (Strength:  4.66)

You prefer activities in the world, whether in your career or otherwise, that require your ability to communicate, or where your communication abilities are recognised. You like such activities to be mentally stimulating, but you may find such stimulation generates nervous strain You could be crafty, even devious, in the methods you use to gain advancement. Check that you are doing what you really want to do rather than doing it simply to go against a parent’s wishes.

Mercury opposite Saturn  (Strength:  2.95)

You are capable of great mental discipline provided you have enough confidence to believe in your own mental powers. Gaining such confidence could well be an issue for you, lack of it maybe arising out of early schooling in which your own views were scorned, or learning was highly structured leaving no space for inspiration and enthusiasm. If through lack of confidence you fail to think for yourself then you may simply repeat the opinions of others, which can never lead to a meeting of minds. In any case you are inclined to mistrust your own thought processes and to believe that the worst of all possible outcomes is the one most likely to occur. Another symptom of confidence issues is the desire for paper qualifications, both for yourself and for any whose professional views you solicit. This is often a wise consideration, but it may also have much to do with your needing written evidence of your ability from an authoritative body. If an authority says you’re good, then maybe you are! Also, you feel others may respect you more if you can provide written evidence of your ability, and you long for this kind of acceptance. With confidence you can make a great contribution where consistent structured thinking is required. Such disciplines as maths, accountancy or science where there may be just one correct solution to a problem will appeal more to you than any which require alternative possibilities, where different interpretations are allowable. You may find these disturbing, since you incline to the idea that there is only one correct solution to any problem. Inspired ideas may not come to you, but you could structure someone else’s bright ideas to make them of practical use.

Mercury opposite Neptune  (Strength:  2.51)

Take Mercury as symbolising facts, information and clear well-considered communication, and Neptune as adding imagination, and you have, for good or ill, a powerful combination. How do you use it? Your rich imagination can help you to see beyond the facts or information that lie in front of your nose to their deeper meaning and significance. You could help others to do the same. However, this very faculty that you have could also lead you astray when clear logical thinking is required. ‘I can’t think straight’ you may say to yourself, and you could feel discouraged at your difficulty in expressing yourself clearly. Does your imagination lead you more deeply into truth, or does it obscure truth? For instance, if you work in advertising, does your campaign accurately describe what you are selling as well as present it in a way that in induces people to buy? You have the capacity to enhance what you know so that the information appeals to human faculties other than the rational, but also to fantasise in such a way as to deceive both yourself and others as to the true nature of the subject. At worst, you know very well you are deceiving others, but that is the kind of activity that attracts you if you do not engage your imagination in a more constructive way. Some artists can depict everyday scenes in such a way that the viewer can perceive more of what is going on in such situations. Music can also take us out of a literal way of looking at life into a deeper experience. Many art forms can be seen as means of communication (Mercury) that lead to a deeper spiritual understanding (Neptune).

Moon in Aquarius

Your Moon sign shows how you instinctively respond to events in your day to day life, and your means of escape when taking time off from your main purpose in life. It shows how you seek safety and security. The house occupied by your Moon shows the area of life where you seek solace, and in which changes can significantly affect your mood. A planet aspecting the Moon colours your feeling nature and your instinctive responses to circumstances in your life.

The Moon signifies a place of refuge from the responsibilities of life in the world. The Moon in an air sign, and especially in Aquarius, tends to take refuge in thoughts or a philosophy of an ideal world constructed in accordance with a plan. According to your particular preferences the plan might be in accord with socialism, pacifism, feminism or some other ‘ism’ (even capitalism), but whatever it is it will be considered by most people to be different from the norm. It can be quite distressing to find that others don’t consider your ideals as obviously correct as you do, and that they even enjoy living in an unreconstructed world. Enjoyment of life may pass you by as your belief gets in the way of what your sensual self knows is fun.

Your ideals extend to home and family life where intimacy and emotional closeness smack of possessiveness to you, so you come across as cool and detached to those you love. Your emotions can be engaged, indeed can be easily aroused, but sustained depth of emotion is difficult for you and you prefer to think your way out of swampy feelings. This may be because you experience feelings with intensity rather than with depth, and you find it easier to relieve the intensity by escaping to your mind rather than by entering into them more fully. It is good to witness your feelings rather than identify with them, but you do have to experience them in order to witness them, and that you are inclined to avoid doing to the depth required. Jealousy is one emotion that has no place in your idea of relationship. You expect to be free to associate with anyone you wish, and may even espouse open marriage. You attempt to push down any murky feelings that are aroused when your partner exercises such freedom, girding yourself in your ideal like a coat of armour.

Friendship may be more amenable to you than romantic love, especially friendship based on a shared ideal. You are honest and fair with your friends and expect the same from them. You find it harder to support them when they are in need of empathy, especially if you believe that the source of their distress is a situation which their ideals should have prevented them getting into in the first place. Your idea of empathy may be to try and straighten them out and re-establish in them the principles on which you think life should be based.

If you are a mother you may be impatient with the natural dependency your children show and long for them grow up, when you can see yourself as their friend rather than as their mother. Leaving your children in a good quality playgroup while you pursue a career or other interests may be a good solution to the frustration you feel at the limitations of having them around you for a long period. Then you will enjoy more the shorter time you do have with them, and so will they, so everyone benefits.

Aquarius is ruled by Saturn which therefore influences the Moon in your chart, especially if they aspect each other. See the description of Saturn in this report for further guidance as to how the Moon operates in your chart.

Moon in the Tenth House

Whatever activities you do in the world, whether they form your career or otherwise, you long for recognition in a way similar to a child’s longing for the sense of being loved by his or her mother. Anyone out there who knows your mother may remark on how similar are your looks and gestures. You may have an intense desire for your mother’s approval for anything you do in your life, and going against what are, or what you perceive to be, her wishes can be quite a challenge to you, but a necessary one to face if you are to become your own person. You may bring mothering qualities into your work, whether by the way you interact with those you encounter in your working situation, or by the nature of the work you do. You may change work frequently in your search for a setting in which your qualities are recognised. Your desire to be liked could also prejudice the wisdom of the decisions you make.

Moon square Sun  (Strength:  1.12)

Restlessness is a common experience in your life. The demands of your work or other goals in life seems to conflict with what your soul requires. Learning to be content with the time out that you have without guilt or otherwise feeling the need to get back to more goal-oriented activity can be difficult. Until you do learn it your relationships may suffer. If you cannot be relaxed about the apparently warring factions within your own psyche, then a feeling of contentment within an intimate relationship will evade you. Your restlessness may well reflect a difficult relationship between your parents, and an experience of conflict because you found that pleasing one meant displeasing the other. You may have to negotiate with the different aspects of your nature, agreeing with one to let the other have time, promising the first that its turn will come later.

The struggle involved in handling this aspect can lead to great strength of character leading to professional success and a useful contribution to the lives of others, but not necessarily great happiness in your own life.

If the Sun is in Taurus you have to work with and enjoy the world as it is, when your idealism tries to tell you that life should be different and that you should be working to change it.

If the Sun is in Scorpio you may find that the ideals and points of view that mean much to you don't bear too much in depth scrutiny, and that you are therefore tempted to avoid examining them closely.

(This aspect is less significant if the Sun is neither in Taurus nor in Scorpio.)

Your Temperament

Mediaeval astrologers used the birth chart to assess the balance of four temperament types: Choleric, Melancholic, Sanguine and Phlegmatic - corresponding roughly to Fire, Earth, Air and Water. Their method was more sophisticated than the common modern one of simply adding up the number of planets in signs of each element. The assessment of your temperament which follows is based on the mediaeval method within the limitations of the software I am using. Greatest weight is given to the Ascendant, the Moon sign and the Season (as indicated by the Sun sign). Since the seasons are reversed in the southern hemisphere from what they are in the northern, and different in tropical regions, this assessment may be somewhat less accurate for births in those parts of the world.

Your birth chart indicates a mainly sanguine temperament. This shows an affable nature, keen to engage with other people, enjoy social activities and have an abundance of people whom you can regard as friends. You may be the life and soul of any party, being light-hearted, generous and full of wit. However, when any of your friends are in distress and needs some empathy they may turn to someone other than you. You may be both relieved and troubled by this, relieved as you find emotionally intense situations hard to deal with, and troubled because you feel you are not the perfect friend you would ideally like to be. Perhaps there are more sanguines on internet networking sites than anyone else because they can have lots of "friends" without being troubled by any distressing situations they find themselves in. You may frequently take up a new interest but discard it when a new one takes your fancy. Thus you may have a superficial knowledge of many things, but be expert in none of them. This may not be a problem unless you pretend to possess detailed knowledge about something when in fact you know little. Your talent may be knowing where to advise others to look for the information they require.

Sun in Taurus

I hope you have seen yourself clearly in this report so far, despite the fact that, unless you have a Leo Ascendant (in which case the Sun is your chart ruler), I have not mentioned your Sun. So far I have set the scene, the context in which the Sun has to operate. To express the Sun in your chart requires more conscious effort, which explains why, until you reach maturity, your Ascendant and Moon are usually more in evidence. If you have ever tried guessing someone’s Sun sign and got it wrong, it could well be that what you actually guessed was his or her Ascendant or Moon sign, but you would not have known since most people do not have such information.
Your Sun sign shows the qualities you need to develop if you are to feel that life has some purpose, and so feel more fulfilled. Such development does not normally happen instinctively, it has to be worked for consciously. The house occupied by your Sun shows the area of life in which you need to express those qualities. Doing so will help you to establish a firm sense of identity. A planet aspecting the Sun needs to be allowed to contribute to the establishment of that sense of identity. Such contribution could be positive, but may come across as negative and delay your development, but the struggle involved can give you great strength if successfully engaged.

Your Sun in Taurus shows your goal in life is to be able to enjoy and sustain the things of the earth, and to be at home in the routines of daily existence. You may liken yourself to a gardener who enjoys the feel of mud on your hands, and tends what is growing with the sole intention of making whatever is already beautiful even more so, rather than making it useful - perhaps creating a floral display rather than a vegetable garden. Your task is to witness to the possibility of enjoying the simple things of life without having to interfere with them. Why eat processed food when fruit and vegetables taste better and are more nutritious in their natural or simply cooked state?

Of course, life in the world is more than simply enjoying its pleasures. Without motivating factors elsewhere in the birth chart Taurus inclines to laziness, so much so that even the prospect of being able to enjoy the sensual world more fully may not be enough to get you going. You do have determination and perseverance however, and if someone else in your life can generate a spark or initiate a course of action that is attractive to you, you can take over the day to day running of it, to make something tangible and lasting.

Your appreciation of the sensual pleasures the world has to offer extends to your approach to relationships, where physical attractiveness and sexual compatibility will loom large when making your choice of partner. The only obstacle to commitment and loyalty is that it may take you a while to find a partner you relate to sufficiently well on other levels to make life together a viable option. You don’t need perfect compatibility on all levels, just enough so that you don’t bore each other to tears except when in bed.

Taurus is ruled by Venus which therefore influences the Sun in your chart, especially if they aspect each other. See the description of Venus in this report for further guidance as to how the Sun operates in your chart.

Sun in the Twelfth House

You were born shortly after sunrise, indicating that the Sun wants to express itself strongly, but is vulnerable due to its recent emergence from subterranean depths. You may have been at risk in your early years of over-exposure to thoughts and feelings of other people, especially within your family, that challenged your slowly emerging sense of who you were. This would have required an emotional maturity beyond your years. The thoughts and feelings you had you would then have withdrawn and they would likely have become unconscious. However such energy must show itself somehow. One way is through what are generally known as psychosomatic illnesses, where the energy disturbs the natural functioning of the body. Another is through other people who manifest the energy one fears to reveal and manifest even to oneself. You would experience other people as hostile even when they are not deliberately so, moreover, you would not necessarily be able to identify clearly where the hostility is coming from. These repressed energies will give you a false conception of your identity so it is important you do not identify with who you perceive yourself to be, sometimes known as your ego. But if you detach yourself from your ego they can work in your favour. Practically this means you could do work where the welfare of others is enhanced rather than your own reward for doing it. If you are able to explore your hidden feelings and integrate them then as a result of your emotional maturity you may have more to offer than the Sun in any other house.

Sun sextile Uranus  (Strength:  2.90)

Uranus was discovered at a time when revolutions threatened to upset established social orders. It is associated in birth charts with a desire for independence in matters associated with any planet it aspects, together with sometimes startling insights that can change the course of one’s life or of the lives of those with whom one associates. So the challenge for you here is to use your desire for independence and any insights you have to further your life’s aims and purpose rather than to deflect you from it.  Probably you manage this challenge well. You tend to stand out from the crowd since you instinctively avoid being associated with established norms, and this can give you a kind of magnetism that draws others to you, especially any who long to break away from a routine lifestyle. Maybe you lead or align yourself with a cause or movement for change in some area of life. You have access to knowledge at a level others do not, but your sympathy for those who cannot share your insights is more intellectual than emotional.

Venus in Aries (Detriment)

Your Venus sign is indicative of your values and what you appreciate in a person or object. It shows the kind of experiences you seek and tend to meet in relationships and the way you go about interacting with others, and indicates your dress sense. The house occupied by Venus shows an area of life where you seek beauty, pleasure and fulfilment, and which you may value more then others. Planets aspecting Venus influence the qualities that you value or find attractive and the extent to which you actually enjoy them. They also show the kinds of interactions you have in relationships.

You incline to being gregarious, making friends easily but not necessarily keeping them as tact and diplomacy is not your strongest asset. You are ardent in your expression of love, or rather, passion, which you may confuse with love. You probably wish to be the dominant partner in a relationship, both in bed and out of it, and this can generate friction unless your partner is happy with that and is also able to stand up for himself or herself when needed for his or her own well-being. When you are content in a relationship you may have a problem keeping your partner for you can be demanding and inconsiderate of your partner’s best interests. You may feel stability in a relationship is not what you seek and wish to feel free to engage your passions wherever they are aroused. If you are a woman you may shun a traditional feminine image and wish to show that anything a man can do you can do better, whether or not you hold to a feminist philosophy. Anyone in relationship with you may find it best to accept there may be battles from time to time, and that to keep the relationship (if it is desired to do so) it would be best to be an honourable loser (not a walkover). If you win a battle don’t give the impression that you have done so.

Aries is ruled by Mars which therefore influences Venus in your chart, especially if they aspect each other. See the description of Mars in this report for further guidance as to how Venus operates in your chart.

Venus in the Twelfth House

Establishing a relationship with another human being with his or her own needs, requirements and boundaries can be a problem when what you really want is to lose all sense of separateness. The mundane issues you have to deal with in relationship to another person seem meaningless when you want to lose yourself in a reality greater than yourself, whether or not this is seen as divine. There will be less of a problem if you can love someone without being attached to any particular idea about how the relationship should play out in daily life. Your love for things hidden may feel stronger than your love for any person. Maybe you fall in love with someone who is committed elsewhere and you have to keep the affair hidden. You may also enjoy working with people who are hidden from society, for instance in prison or in hospital, especially if such work involves encouraging them to appreciate beauty and the finer things of life.

Venus square Uranus  (Strength:  4.74)

Relationships are a scenario in which the emotions need to be engaged for deep and lasting joy. However, Uranus has no interest in the murkiness of basic instinctual life, preferring to live in the realm of ideas and ideals. Consequently you may have an ideal of purity and intellectual compatibility when it comes to affairs of the heart, leading you to cut off just at the moment when a warm throbbing heart is most required for greater intimacy. You are likely to be successful at attracting people to you since you exude a friendliness that is stimulating at the mental level, waking people up to ideas that challenge their own in an exciting way. You can be very sensitive in an endearing way, but when deeper emotional involvement is called for you find it hard to stay in the realm of the feelings, preferring to escape into an exchange of ideas. If you do desire a deep commitment with someone you are most likely to succeed if you know you are free to spend time alone for a while, and that your partner knows you need that freedom and is content to let you have it. Some people handle this by forming relationships with others, such as airline staff, who are away from home for much of their lives. If you are unaware of your need for such freedom than you will find yourself attracted to people who exhibit it in their own lives in a way that makes them unavailable to you. What you may be playing out in your life is an early experience of being cut off from love, so that in adult life you unconsciously expect the same. You protect yourself be escaping before the expected abandonment happens. This could manifest as frequent emotional withdrawal from a relationship, or as frequent changes of partner. If you withdraw from emotional commitment, then possibilities outside an existing relationship often look more exciting. However, until you face the dilemma seriously patterns will repeat themselves, giving pain to others and a lack of integrity that ultimately will not satisfy you. Your idea of what constitutes beauty may be somewhat unconventional so that, for instance, your dress sense does not conform to the norm of those around you. Indeed, the idea and experience of shocking others could be attractive to you!

Venus semi-square Jupiter  (Strength:  1.28)

Put the principle of love, joy and peace in a dynamic relationship with that for expansion, optimism and faith and what do you get? You may know all about seeking good times and enjoying them, a rich social life and confidence that all will be well for you. In fact, you may not know where to place the boundaries on a lifestyle that includes plenty of fun. Jupiter is strong on ethics but weaker on having a sense of responsibility in day to day matters. This may seem a contradiction in terms until you consider that your particular code of ethics may go against what is considered moral in society at large. You may have a blind spot when it comes to the pain experienced by others arising out of your pursuit of pleasure. In personal relationships for instance you may, consciously or otherwise, have a belief that if something increases your enjoyment of life then that thing is good whatever the consequences for others. You may have a partner who loves you and seeks a commitment from you that you are reluctant to give lest it circumscribe your enjoyment of life. No partner has the right to put chains on you and prevent you venturing out into experiences that are good for you, but some need more security than others and may need some reassurance that your love is sure and your fidelity unquestionable. Financially you may feel well off even when you are not, and spend much on your lifestyle, and, perhaps, on the pleasure of giving to others, while oblivious to your mounting credit card debt which will limit your ability to fulfil your responsibilities.

Mars in Gemini

Your Mars sign shows the manner of your aggression and assertion. You may have very direct or roundabout methods of getting what you want. You feel good if you express yourself in the manner of this sign. The house occupied by Mars shows the area of life in which you need to develop skill. Should you fail to do so, there may be consequences for your sense of well-being, and this may affect your health. You could also get very angry when the affairs of this house do not go well. Watch lest you blame others for your own failings. Planets aspecting Mars indicate further your method of self-assertion and may also suggest an area of life about which you could feel good if you were to develop it.

Much of your energy goes into mental activity. You have a restless mind with lots of interests, and if one of them really catches on you might pursue it with vigour until you achieve the victory of knowing everything about it that you can. Otherwise you might flit from one interest to another gaining a superficial knowledge of many subjects and mastery of none. Mars is a fighter and the fruits of victory might be a huge library of reference books or a comprehensive databank. Practical application of knowledge might not be your concern.

Whether expert or not, you are keen to share the information you have, expressing your ideas more forcefully than they may deserve. You are inclined to say whatever comes into your mind without censoring it on the way, and this can lead to other people feeling hurt. Your lack of expertise in the subjects you talk about may lead to rows when someone who knows more than you disagrees, for you can hardly bear to lose an argument. You might enjoy lecturing as a way of channelling your desire to talk, provided you know enough about your subject.

Sex you might find more of an interesting experience than a physical one, and commitment difficult as you risk losing other interesting experiences with other people. You might be as keen to talk about sex as to do it, your erogenous zones being reached more by sexy talk than by touch.

Gemini is ruled by Mercury which therefore influences Mars in your chart, especially if they aspect each other. See the description of Mercury in this report for further guidance as to how Mars operates in your chart.

Mars conjunct Jupiter  (Strength:  5.59)

Whatever it is in life that you really want and are prepared to fight for you believe in strongly, and this can lead you to put that much more energy into the actions you take to secure your ends. The direct incisive energy of Mars and the benign protective energy of Jupiter do not make a natural blend. At best you are aware of other people’s well-being and will be concerned to avoid any actions that could endanger them. Whatever you believe in you are prepared to fight for or defend, so it would be as well to believe in the right things lest you get carried away to some distant target that is far from the truth. Religion and politics are likely areas in which you could invest your energy. A love of sport and a constant search for fun could siphon off excess energy, or divert you from your main aims in life. Any form of constraint will not appeal to you, and one form of such constraint could be commitment in relationships, which you see as restricting your adventurous spirit, at the same time as you wish to return home from such adventures to find a loyal partner waiting for you.

Jupiter in Taurus

Your Jupiter sign shows the kind of qualities you value and have faith in, whether or not you are successful in achieving them in your own life. The house occupied by Jupiter indicates an area of life where (subject to other chart factors) you can achieve success more readily than in other areas. Sometimes it may seem like good fortune or luck rather than achievement. Jupiter in aspect to a faster-moving planet generally facilitates the matters governed by that planet.

In principle the simple physical pleasures of life mean a lot to you, and you appreciate those who are able to enjoy them. Such pleasures might include bodily ones like good food and drink or an appreciation of the pleasure of touch. An appreciation of art, or the beauty of another human being, might be included. Glitz and glamour are less likely to appeal to you than beauty plain and simple. It can be very frustrating if these pleasures are unavailable to you, either through circumstance or through a feeling of guilt about allowing them into your life, but you will never give up your belief that such enjoyment is possible for you, and the vision can help you to achieve it.

Taurus is ruled by Venus which therefore influences Jupiter in your chart, especially if they aspect each other. See the description of Venus in this report for further guidance as to how Jupiter operates in your chart.

Jupiter in the Twelfth House

Have you spent much of your life seeking happiness and meaning in various activities and been frustrated? It is time to seek joy within, in the depths of your own soul, in seclusion from the world. Recourse to myth and symbol and contemplation of them can put you in touch with a deep inner space of joy that you can then take into your daily life, giving joy others by simply being who you are. You do need to take the benefits out into life. Indulging in your dreams and fantasies can become a pastime that leads to frustration unless you give to the world what you have gained. Likewise giving in to the temptation to reach the dream world through the use of drugs or alcohol can be your undoing. The benefits you can give the world may be best expressed in a setting that contains people who have to withdraw from the world for some reason, like hospitals or prisons. You may find you have a gift for counselling or healing.

Jupiter trine Midheaven  (Strength:  2.33)

You have some confidence in relation to your activities in the world including your career prospects, and this will help you towards success. It is faith rather than hard work that leads you there, and this could result in your overlooking some of the details required to make your projects as good as they could be.

Saturn in Libra (Exaltation)

Your Saturn sign shows the kind of qualities you find it a struggle to express. You may even consider them not worth the effort, or denigrate them in some way. You may attempt to cover up your inhibitions by acting out those qualities in a falsely exaggerated manner. The house occupied by Saturn indicates an area of life whose mature expression is often subject to delay and frustration. It may take most of a lifetime to learn how to live with fulfilment in that area, but the reward for doing so will be great. Saturn in aspect to a faster-moving planet generally requires that planet to work harder to achieve success in the matters governed by that planet. The result of such work could be a more mature expression of those matters.

Libra signifies the desire for peace and harmony in relationships and in all of life. It signifies a strong aesthetic sense in art and design. Having Saturn here indicates you have to work hard to achieve all you look for in these areas, but such effort should normally bring success, since Libra is the sign of Saturn’s exaltation. Early in life you may doubt that such qualities are worth striving for, preferring a direct and uncompromising approach to life and disdaining the enjoyment of art. But Saturn will not be denied and sooner or later you will have to make some effort in these matters. Having to take another person’s well-being or point of view into account may be something you fear, so that you shy away from getting too close to anyone. Such closeness risks vulnerability, and you may fear losing independence. Another possibility is that you may feel it a matter of over-riding principle that you be in a partnership and have many social obligations and force yourself in this direction as if under a compulsion. Maturity can come when you observe yourself and your reactions in any form of partnership or social interaction, watching your feelings of fear or inadequacy in such situations and realising you do not have to be limited by such fears.

Libra is ruled by Venus which therefore influences Saturn in your chart, especially if they aspect each other. See the description of Venus in this report for further guidance as to how Saturn operates in your chart.

Saturn in the Sixth House

Your working environment and daily routines are areas which could be ones of considerable unhappiness for you. Your work may seem like drudgery, the same old tasks every day, and no brighter prospects in sight. If a job needs doing that no-one else wants to do you are the one who has to do it, or maybe you are the one who is hard on others, keeping yourself separate and not allowing a free give and take relationship with your fellow workers. But what would you do if there was some prospect of change? Would you embrace it, or stick to the same old grind because it gives you a feeling of security? If your environment remains perfectly ordered and never changes it may save you from facing inner fears that really need bringing out into the light of day and resolving. The efficient functioning of your body may also be of concern to you. Health issues may symbolise imbalances in your life as a whole. Diet may go some way to restoring health, but is unlikely to do so apart from an examination of your lifestyle, especially of ways in which you are holding yourself back from things you want to do.

Saturn conjunct Neptune  (Strength:  7.56)

The boundaries, structure and security represented by Saturn meet the formlessness, dissolution and spiritual/mystical tendencies of Neptune. The result? At best, the structure provides a framework within which the need or desire for that which transcends it can flourish. Some religions have highly structured rituals or liturgies that provide a focus for the spiritual yearnings of their followers, leading to a very beneficial practical enabling of those yearnings, with positive results both for those followers and for those who associate with them. A less beneficial outcome is that the structure could become an end in itself, and is seen as a bastion of security against forces making for dissolution. The possibility that the structure or dogma may not be totally reliable gives rise to great anxiety that is buried by even stronger adherence to what is seen as the ‘truth’, which in turn gives rise to even greater anxiety. Another possibility is that form and boundaries are lost altogether, and life is dominated by mystical yearnings and dreams of an idealised world order that have no possibility of fruition in daily life because no thought has been given to practical working out of such visions. When they are either escaped into or sacrificed, dreams lose the value they could have. The message: test your dreams and ideals, are they worth working for or are they utopian pipedreams? If worthwhile, then work to make them a reality.

Saturn sextile Pluto  (Strength:  1.46)

These two planets both, in their different ways, signify control. Saturn signifies the control exercised by various forms of authority, be they parental, social/political or the censor we all have within us telling us what and what not to do. Pluto signifies the control we exercise when we fear the awakening within us of previously buried feelings of which we are ashamed. Should you see yourself as a peace-loving, gentle and warm-hearted human being, then it is understandable that you do not want to admit to feelings of hatred, violence and cruelty! The possibility here is that, should you be in a position of authority, you will exercise that authority in a way that allows people minimum freedom for self-expression, for fear, probably unconscious, that such self-expression will touch areas of your own life that need liberation. You may exercise rigid control over yourself, perhaps in the form of hard work over long hours, because if you were to let go unlived aspects of your life would break through and you are not ready to face the challenges that would entail. Over time your readiness to face these challenges should grow, and you will accept the transformation in your consciousness that comes through doing so, welcoming the opportunity to exercise authority responsibly. Where you come across power structures that result in some people being outcast, you may identify with those outcasts while you work to create structures that enable rather than disable them.

Saturn square Midheaven  (Strength:  1.30)

You take your activities in the world very seriously, with a strong sense of responsibility but maybe a disinclination to accept help when such help might be beneficial. If in a career you are prepared to work hard to progress, but sometimes the struggle can be so great there is a temptation to give up. Lack of confidence about your abilities could result in delays in finding your place in the world.

Uranus in the Third House

For centuries the skills exercised by astrologers were practised successfully without reference to Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, these planets having yet to be discovered. Some modern astrologers have given them rulership of signs, but the stance taken in this report, based on my own experience in reading charts, is that such rulerships have limited value and the traditional rulerships have been retained. However, their significance in birth charts can be considerable, especially if they are angular (close to the Ascendant, Midheaven, Descendant or Imum Coeli) or in close aspect to other planets. Uranus stays in the same sign for seven years, Pluto for up to thirty. Therefore the sign placements of these planets in individual birth charts are not normally significant (their influence being generational) and are not delineated in this report. Their house positions, however, are worthy of consideration.
The house position of Uranus indicates an area of life where an independent free-thinking stance is preferred. Rules and expectations are experienced as frustrating and will often be breached, sometimes in what others would regard as an outrageous manner. This can be disruptive, especially in areas of life where fidelity and stability are assets. Care must be taken to create a framework in which freedom can be exercised as well as commitment. Uranus in aspect to a faster-moving planet can add excitement and insight to its workings, but also a wish to break out of any limitations.

Conventional schooling methods may not have suited you, for your way of thinking and learning is not stable enough for rote learning. You are prone to sudden insights that are ahead of anyone else, so that when you are in conversation with anyone you can suddenly lose the thread and the other person wonders where your mind has gone. You can come up with solutions to a problem which others have been grappling with for a long time. You may be seen as something of a maverick in your neighbourhood, restlessly moving around and perhaps being involved in local politics to improve people’s plight.

Neptune in the Sixth House

The house position of Neptune shows the area of life where you seek an experience that reaches beyond the mundane necessities of daily life. You could try to enrich those areas, exercising your imagination so that some kind of transcendent reality can shine through them. Alternatively you could choose to sacrifice earthly satisfaction in that area of life in the name of what you see as a more spiritual mode of existence. The conflict between the necessities of day to day living and the desire for something beyond it could signify difficulties for you in the matters governed by this house. Neptune in aspect to a faster-moving planet has a similar significance.

How do you feel about your body? Maybe you feel it is a limiting solid mass that holds you back from the unboundedness of spiritual life. Then you neglect it and your skin erupts because your body cannot contain what you aspire to. Having Neptune in this house suggests a reluctance to accept the mundane necessities of daily life, like having a set routine you can follow to make sure you carry out all your responsibilities. The 6th house is associated with ritual. In churches ritual is used to make the God who is described as a consuming fire accessible in a manageable way. Having Neptune in the 6th house you may need ritual to give form to what is otherwise formless, and ritual in the form of a diet and exercise routine may be necessary to maintain health. Ritual, or routines, can also be used as a defence against what may be experienced as dark forces that need to be recognised as aspects of the personality that have been suppressed. When you recognise and work with those aspects you could be an effective healer, for you see that health is more than a matter of diet and exercise. The workplace is another 6th house setting. If you have people working for you, you may be open to deception as to their reliability. You may be impatient with office routines so are not careful enough to check that staff will carry them out effectively. When others in the office make mistakes you may find yourself in the role of scapegoat for them, or maybe the victim of those errors.

Pluto in the Fifth House

The house position of Pluto shows an area of life through which any unresolved emotional conflicts within you are channelled. This can give rise to an obsession with that area and an attempt to control their expression, lest letting go releases pent-up feelings in a way that cannot be handled by the conscious mind. The obsession can have a positive outcome if it is accompanied by working towards greater self-knowledge and acceptance. Deeply ingrained complexes can find an outlet through the matters governed by this house. Matters governed by a faster-moving planet are similarly affected if in aspect with Pluto.

The 5th house covers such apparently diverse areas as creative expression, sport and games, entertainment, love affairs and children. There is more in any of these areas you are involved in than may appear superficially. If you express yourself through some form of art, then you do so partly in order to work on deeply hidden emotions that can hinder you unless allowed release in some way. This can lead to some deeply subtle art forms that are difficult for others to understand but can be transformative when they do. Subjects may include some that society regards as taboo, but which have been part of your life though you may not be aware that they are. If you engage in sport, winning could be not just about beating the competition, but also about re-establishing your power and authority when these have been subtly taken from you, probably in your family background. Gambling could be an obsession, living dangerously a way of bringing excitement into a life from which enjoyment of simple pleasures has been drained. Children can be used as pawns in a power game in a relationship. Pregnancy could be used, consciously or not, as a way of trying to keep a partner whose commitment is doubted. If the partner does leave you still have the children for comfort and companionship. Another way to keep control is to decide not to have children at all lest they remind you of trauma in your own childhood following which you have denied the child in you, and for fear they may take over your life. You could attract love affairs in which conflict and jealousy feature strongly, or sexual conquest is used as a means of feeling powerful.

House Rulers and Dispositors

We now come to the houses in your birth chart. There are twelve of these, each referring to a different area of your life. The 1st house is the Ascendant and this has already been described early in this report. Now follow the other eleven, first the so-called angular houses, the Midheaven, the Descendant and the Imum Coeli, then the remaining eight. I have already delineated the house position of each planet in your chart, and for the delineation of any house, planets within it are the most important factors. However, each house is also ruled by a planet which will not normally be within it. For each house following I will specify its ruling planet. The house in which that planet resides indicates how the affairs of the house it rules might turn out.

For instance, if the ruler of the Midheaven or 10th house (activities in the world) is in the 5th (entertainment, children etc.), then your career might involve working in the entertainment industry or with children. If it does not you might consider it as an option. If the ruler of the 2nd house (money, possessions) is in the Descendant or 7th, your financial affairs will be influenced (for good or ill) by your partnerships or relationships. For each house, check again the delineation already given above for its ruler. This will tell you how the affairs of that house might turn out.

Capricorn Midheaven (10th House)

The Midheaven is the highest point in the birth chart, where the Sun is at midday. The sign in which it falls and planets in the 10th house signify the way you reach out into the world and the kind of activities that could be appropriate for you therein. Such activities do not necessarily constitute your career, but ideally they would be included within it. (For consideration of your career direction the Ascendant, its ruler, the Sun, the Moon and the 10th house are all relevant.) The greater the number of planets in the 10th house of your birth chart, especially if the Sun is one of them, the more frustrated you will feel if you do not have significant activity outside of your home and family environment. If family commitments tie you, then you might give some consideration to ways of rearranging them so that you do have opportunities for activities beyond them. Your experience of your mother may be shown by this house.

You prefer a role in which you know where the boundaries of responsibility are, or in which you can set them yourself and work with people who are content to act within them. You take pride in acting responsibly, carrying out your duties to the best of your ability.

Capricorn is on the cusp of this house, so it is ruled by Saturn.

Sagittarius Descendant (7th House)

Opposite the Ascendant, the Descendant indicates your experience of yourself in relation to another person. Usually it begins as the way in which you experience the other person, and the kind of person to whom you are attracted (but note there are many other indicators of this in the chart). The sign on the Descendant and any planets in the 7th house show qualities you look for in another person. They may be qualities, desirable or otherwise, that you repeatedly find in people to whom you are attracted. As a general rule they are traits within you that may be undeveloped or of which you are unaware, and the relationship gives you an opportunity to wake up to them.

Among the qualities you find attractive in other people are faith, wisdom, insight and a desire to explore beyond the confines of ordinary life. Such people could inspire you to let go of nagging doubts, or at least to hold them in a different way so that they no longer restrain you from venturing out into a richer life.

Sagittarius is on the cusp of this house, so it is ruled by Jupiter.

Cancer IC (4th House)

Opposite the Midheaven this is the lowest point in the birth chart, where the Sun is at midnight. The sign in which it falls and planets in the 4th house signify your experience of your home and family (in particular of your father), of your soul and most personal space, that without which you cannot reach out into the world (10th house) in a satisfactory way.

You are concerned that your life should have a foundation of peace, safety and emotional contentment. Your home needs to be a place where such a foundation can be laid, and security within family life will help this. Peace within your soul will help you weather many storms in life.

Cancer is on the cusp of this house, so it is ruled by the Moon.
